Grubby Little Mitts Presents: Sketchbook Comedy

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The concept is simple - Sketch comedians being sketched by an artists while performing. It's a beautifully simple yet effective idea that brings together a plethora of talented comedians for 90 minutes of brilliant comedy.

The evening begins with our hosts Rosie Nicholls and Sullivan Beau-Brown of Grubby Little Mitts introducing us to the concept of Sketchbook Comedy, Rosie will be the artist for the evening, creating beautiful sketches of each act as they perform.

This is a mixed bill show, so we really get to see a broad spectrum of acts over the evening. It’s a great opportunity to see 10 minutes of an act and then maybe add something new to your fringe schedule! Most were hilarious and had me howling with laughter, some particular highlights were The Duncan Brothers and their discussion around Hemochromatosis and Irn Bru.

Josh Glanc was also a stand out, knowing how to play with the audience and bring them along for the ride I was entranced by him and his very clever writing, especially his old man/young man song.

‘Bishops’ is clearly a whirlwind of a show, Comedy duo Chris Curran and Noah Matthews have a great rapport together and their hilarious sketch with hidden identities, infidelity and deceit left me wanting more (so much so I booked as soon as I got home!).

The night was rounded off by Lil Wenker, performing as a cowboy…with spoons for spurrs this is an incredible characterization and Lil is exceptional. It’s silly and funny and involves a lot of audience interactions which they are fully on board with.

We then get to see the wonderful sketches of the acts from the evening which is a great end to the show. The wonderful thing about SketchBook Comedy is that no two shows will ever be the same so it’s always worth attending!

Sketchbook are performing at Edinburgh Fringe (24th, 23:10, Assembly Studio 2) and they also have a monthly show in London. Check out their socials for dates and details in the link below!
